Mediated Spaces’ Skymap "Sighted" on the iPhone

The Skymap Now iPhone users can get the sky above them anytime, anywhere

NEW YORK July 23, 2008 – Mediated Spaces, the pioneering mobile software development company focusing on citizen science, announced that its award-winning Skymap application is now available on the iPhone and iPod Touch through uLocate’s location-based application, WHERE™ . The Skymap utilizes GPS-enabled mobile devices to display the current sky--planets, moon, and constellations--at a user's current location.

Astronomy has one of the largest followings of any of the sciences, and is also one of the few sciences in which "citizen scientists" still make significant contributions. The Skymap helps amateur astronomers conveniently explore the current sky anytime, anywhere on their mobile device. It also features a "night vision" mode that helps amateur astronomers retain their eyes’ night adjustment.

To access the Skymap, users can download WHERE on the App Store for free, and activate the Skymap widget from the WHERE menu.

"We are happy to offer the Skymap on the iPhone and iPod Touch and hope it will inspire people of all ages to get outside and make the universe their own--at their current location, at that moment," said Jared Lamenzo, CEO of Mediated Spaces.

In addition to the version on the iPhone and iPod Touch, the Skymap is available on over eighty other GPS-enabled phones through WHERE. Lamenzo added, "Amateur astronomers and stargazers tend to be tech-savvy, and are an excellent match for the new services and capabilities of mobile devices." Mediated Spaces plans to add social networking capabilities and a "celestial news-feed" in future releases.

"We are pleased to welcome the Skymap to our suite of innovative widgets on WHERE," said Dan Gilmartin, vice president of marketing, uLocate Communications. "The Skymap widget is a fun and educational tool and just one more way WHERE helps you explore the world around you.

WHERE is free of charge and available on the App Store. For more information, please visit and
